TL;DR

Sale price = original price x (1 - discount rate / 100), and discount rate (%) = (original price - sale price) / original price x 100.

An original price of ₩50,000 with a 30% discount gives a sale price of ₩35,000 and saves ₩15,000.

Enter Discount Details

Enter the pre-discount list price.
%
Enter a discount rate between 0 and 100.

The discount rate is auto-clamped to the 0-100% range. Calculate stacked discounts by multiplying them in sequence.

How to Use

  1. Choose direction - Select the Find sale price (original + rate) or Find discount rate (original + sale price) tab.
  2. Enter values - Enter the original price, then either the discount rate (%) or the sale price depending on the direction chosen.
  3. View result - Press Calculate to see the sale price or discount rate along with the amount saved.

How to Calculate Discount Rate and Sale Price

A discount subtracts a fixed percentage from the original (list) price. To find the sale price, multiply the original price by (1 - discount rate); conversely, to find the discount rate, divide the amount reduced by the original price. In both cases, looking at the amount saved (original price - sale price) shows the real benefit at a glance.

Example: an original price of ₩50,000 with a 30% discount gives a sale price = 50,000 x 0.7 = ₩35,000, saving ₩15,000. With 30% off plus an extra 10% off, it is 50,000 x 0.7 x 0.9 = ₩31,500 - an effective 37% discount, not a simple 40%.

After checking the sale price of an imported item, use the import customs duty calculator to check de minimis thresholds and taxes for a more accurate final cost.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

How do I calculate the sale price?

Sale price = original price x (1 - discount rate / 100). For example, an original price of ₩50,000 with a 30% discount gives 50,000 x (1 - 0.3) = ₩35,000, and the amount saved is ₩15,000.

How do I reverse-calculate the discount rate?

Discount rate (%) = (original price - sale price) / original price x 100. For example, if an item with an original price of ₩50,000 sells for ₩35,000, the discount rate is (50,000 - 35,000) / 50,000 x 100 = 30%.

How do I calculate stacked (additional) discounts?

Stacked discounts are multiplied in sequence, not added. For example, 30% off followed by an extra 10% off is not 40%; it is original x 0.7 x 0.9 = 63% of the original, an effective 37% discount.

Are list price and original price the same?

In this calculator, original price means the pre-discount list price. It differs from the seller's cost; enter the regular selling price that serves as the basis for the discount.
